Just before my stop in Munich, I stopped here. It’s hard to ignore what happened in Germany less than a century ago. Mauthausen use to be a concentration camp but one of the few where they put their inmates to work. How many people died here is still unknown but if you google some images I’m sure you will be horrified at what you’ll see. I don’t really know what else to say about this. The feeling that you get when you step onto a place like this is weird, and I can’t even describe it. It’s silent, empty, and you know that every step that you take, a different person died there. I got to see the crematorium and the gas chambers, walk around empty rooms that use to be filled with people that didn’t really deserve to be there. It was a humbling experience to say the least. Most people like myself would have had a different life if I was alive in these day.
Today, Mauthausen is a memorial sight.
